2025 has emerged as a significant period of diplomatic and military success for Pakistan, a report published by the British newspaper The Telegraph noted.
The country has managed to outmaneuver India on the global stage and has strengthened its ties with the United States. A leading British newspaper has also acknowledged Pakistan’s growing diplomatic achievements.
According to the newspaper, the visit of Pakistan’s Field Marshal to the United States in June marked an extraordinary development in bilateral relations. The report stated that Pakistan’s lobbying efforts proved more effective than India’s, resulting in Pakistan securing better trade concessions compared to several other countries. As a result, Pakistan further consolidated its position in Washington.
The report attributed this progress largely to the arrest of Mohammad Sharifullah, a key terrorist affiliated with ISIS-Khorasan involved in the Kabul airport bombing, and his timely handover to the United States. Former US President Donald Trump announced the arrest during a joint session of Congress.
The capture of Mohammad Sharifullah proved to be a turning point in relations between Islamabad and the Trump administration. Pakistan received improved trade incentives compared to other nations, while Field Marshal Asim Munir and the Prime Minister were also granted meetings at the Oval Office.
The report further noted that during heightened tensions between Pakistan and India following the Pahalgam attack in April, the responses of both countries clarified their standing in Washington. India rejected US mediation, while Pakistan welcomed Trump’s peace efforts and even nominated him for the Nobel Peace Prize.
According to The Telegraph, Field Marshal Asim Munir’s visit to the United States in June was unprecedented in terms of bilateral engagement. Subsequently, President Trump referred to him as his “favorite field marshal” during discussions related to the Gaza ceasefire agreement.
Pakistan also presented itself as a key strategic player in the Middle East, maintaining close relations with Gulf countries, Iran, and Saudi Arabia. In light of America’s growing demand for critical minerals, Pakistan offered access to mineral reserves worth nearly $6 trillion to US companies. This, the report concluded, is why Pakistan has emerged as the Trump administration’s top choice among regional partners.
