MQM Pakistan leader and Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal has made shocking allegations against MQM founder Altaf Hussain, claiming he was responsible for the 2010 murder of Dr. Imran Farooq.
During the press briefing in Karachi on Sunday, Mustafa Kamal made severe allegations against Altaf Hussain, stating that he, while intoxicated, ordered the killing of Dr. Imran Farooq.
Mustafa Kamal claimed that Altaf Hussain had given Farooq a birthday gift in September 2017, only to later orchestrate his murder.
Kamal also accused Altaf Hussain of exploiting Farooq’s death for financial gain, alleging that millions of pounds were collected under the pretext of sending Farooq’s body to Pakistan, yet Hussain mismanaged and staged the proceedings.
“He performed a drama over the body of Dr. Imran Farooq’s wife and collected donations from around the world,” Kamal said.
The minister further alleged that Hussain’s leadership harmed the Muhajir nation for 40 years. Kamal criticized Hussain for misusing power, orchestrating immoral acts, and failing to pursue constitutional amendments for Karachi and its people.
Background
Dr. Imran Farooq, a senior MQM leader, was brutally killed outside his home in London on September 16, 2010.
Farooq’s murder sparked international attention, with Scotland Yard conducting a detailed investigation. Several MQM members were later convicted in connection with the killing, but questions regarding the involvement of higher leadership have remained a point of controversy.
Mustafa Kamal claims to have maintained contact with Farooq’s widow and children, who were kept under protection by Scotland Yard following the murder.
Allegations of misconduct
Mustafa Kamal alleged that Hussain misused party funds, citing recovery of £500,000 from under his pillow and £600,000 from party offices, while Farooq’s widow struggled financially.
Kamal described Hussain as a “dramatic leader” who staged events over the deceased and showed no genuine concern for the welfare of the nation or its citizens.
He emphasized Hussain’s ability to mobilize millions for public displays, yet accused him of never taking meaningful steps for constitutional or social reforms. “He filled graveyards with martyrs, jails with youth, and displaced families, harming generations of the Muhajir nation,” Kamal said.
Calls for justice
Mustafa Kamal urged Imran Farooq’s children to file a case regarding their father’s murder with Scotland Yard and warned against contact with Hussain. He stressed the importance of holding the “real killers” accountable and described Hussain as a national criminal and traitor.
Kamal prayed that Hussain would repent but stated that his actions have consistently proven harmful to the nation. He also criticized the party leadership around Hussain, accusing them of pursuing “two-tika” politics and betraying the nation.
