Pakistan has expressed full support for the diplomatic efforts being undertaken by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to ensure peace and stability in the Republic of Yemen.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said: "Pakistan also commends the efforts of the United Arab Emirates in this regard and is closely monitoring recent developments in Yemen."
The MoFA underlined the need to uphold Yemen’s unity and territorial integrity, and voiced the hope that Yemeni stakeholders would avoid any unilateral actions that could lead to further escalation.
It called on all Yemeni parties to engage constructively and in good faith towards an inclusive, negotiated political settlement based on agreed parameters.
The MoFA said Pakistan hopes the ongoing diplomatic efforts will lead to concrete steps towards lasting peace and bring an end to the suffering of the Yemeni people.
On the other side, the spokesman of the coalition led by Saudi Arabia, General Turki Al-Malki, has warned separatists that those who undermine efforts to establish peace will be dealt with firmly. Authorities will be compelled to take action to ensure the protection of civilians.
According to foreign media reports, the separatist group STC seized control of the Hadhramaut province a few days ago. STC fighters expelled the internationally recognised government from the city of Aden. The STC also rejected Saudi Arabia’s appeal to withdraw its forces.
