Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif addressed a Christmas ceremony at the Prime Minister’s House, paying tribute to Hazrat Isa (AS), honouring the role of minorities, and reaffirming the government’s commitment to equality, justice, and protection of minority rights in Pakistan.
The prime minister said the gathering was held to celebrate the birth of Hazrat Isa, describing it as a blessing from God for all of humanity. He recalled that God swore by the purity of Hazrat Maryam (AS) in the holy Quran, underscoring the revered status of Hazrat Isa in Islam.
He added that Hazrat Isa stood against oppression and cruelty, calling him a healing hand for humanity whose teachings remain a source of guidance and compassion for the world.
Historic role of minorities
Prime Minister Sharif said minorities, particularly Christians, have a valuable and historic role in Pakistan’s creation, development, and prosperity. He saluted the Christian community from the bottom of his heart for its sacrifices and services to the country.
He emphasized that minority brothers and sisters have played a full role in national development, with outstanding contributions in education, the defense of Pakistan, and every walk of life.
Tribute to Christian heroes, armed forces
Referring to national defense, the prime minister said Pakistan’s armed forces gave a crushing response to the enemy in May under the inspiring leadership of the field marshal. He stated that Pakistan’s forces dealt a major blow to the enemy, while the air force, under its leadership, downed seven aircraft and severely damaged an eighth.
He paid special tribute to legendary air hero Cecil Chaudhry, saying he rendered great services in the defense of Pakistan and remains a symbol of courage for the nation.
Remembering sacrifices
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif saluted Christian soldiers who shed their blood for the homeland. He highlighted the sacrifice of Haroon William, who laid down his life while fighting the enemy.
The prime minister said he personally joined the field marshal in the last rites of Haroon William, calling his sacrifice a proud chapter in Pakistan’s history.
Recalling Pakistan’s founding principles, the prime minister said Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah clearly stated that everyone in Pakistan would enjoy full legal rights. He noted that minorities were assured complete freedom to go to their places of worship without fear or intimidation.
He reiterated that this vision of equality and religious freedom remains the guiding principle of the state.
PML-N stance on minority rights
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that during the Pakistan Muslim League-N governments, Nawaz Sharif consistently protected minority rights. He recalled that Nawaz Sharif actively participated in the festivals of Hindus and Christians to promote harmony.
He stressed that equality, justice, and brotherhood are core teachings of Islam and form the foundation of Pakistan’s social fabric.

The prime minister said the essence of the virtues of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) lies in kindness, tolerance, and love for all humanity. He urged society to follow the principle of not speaking ill of anyone’s religion.
He assured minorities that the government would use the full force of law against any atrocity committed against them.
Govt commitment
Shehbaz reaffirmed full support for minorities and vowed to stand shoulder to shoulder with them in safeguarding their rights. He said the birthday of Hazrat Isa is a source of joy for Muslims as well.
He concluded by also congratulating Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Nawaz Sharif on their birthdays, describing them as important figures in Pakistan’s national journey.
Meanwhile, on the occasion of Christmas, Prime Minister Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari extended greetings to Pakistan’s Christian community, highlighting their role in national development, peace, and social harmony. Both leaders underscored the importance of unity, religious freedom, and mutual respect in the country.
PM Sharif praised Hazrat Isa (AS) for his message of peace, brotherhood, and love. He described the Christian community as an active, positive, and peaceful segment of society, commending their contributions to socio-economic development and their sacrifices in the fight against terrorism.
Sharif urged all Pakistanis to renew their commitment to nation-building and social harmony, highlighting that the Christian community’s services help promote unity across the country. “Christmas is a message for humanity that connects us with feelings of love and goodwill,” he said.
Zardari’s message
President Zardari emphasized that Christmas brings hope, peace, and compassion while reminding citizens of the bonds that connect all humans.
He referenced Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s vision of Pakistan as a state based on freedom and equality for all, quoting Jinnah’s historic August 11, 1947, address affirming the right to worship freely.
He reiterated that Pakistan’s Constitution guarantees equal rights and religious freedom, urging the nation to continue fostering tolerance, cooperation, and peaceful coexistence.
