Pakistan’s security forces killed nine Pakistan Tehreek-e-Taliban (TTP) terrorists—also referred to as Fitna al Khawarij—in two separate intelligence-based operations (IBOs) in Dera Ismail Khan and Bannu districts, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed on Sunday.
An IBO was conducted in Dera Ismail Khan after intelligence reports indicated the presence of terrorists.
According to the ISPR, troops engaged militants in a fierce firefight, resulting in the deaths of four Khawarij militants actively involved in terrorist activities.
Weapons and ammunition were recovered from the site, and sanitisation operations continue to ensure no other militants remain in the area.
Another operation in Bannu district saw five additional Khawarij neutralised by security forces. The ISPR stated that these terrorists were also involved in attacks against law enforcement agencies, security personnel, and civilians.
Pakistan has experienced an increase in terrorist attacks, particularly in KP and Balochistan, since the Afghan Taliban took power in 2021. Cross-border militancy has intensified tensions, leading to clashes between Pakistan and Afghanistan in October.
Just days prior, Islamabad summoned the Afghan deputy head of mission to express concern over support for groups like Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the Khwarij Gul Bahadur Group.
The Foreign Office condemned recent attacks on Pakistani military camps and civilians, warning that continued facilitation of terrorist groups by Afghan soil threatens national security. Pakistan reserves the right to defend its sovereignty and protect its citizens through necessary measures.
