An Anti-Terrorism Court judge, Arshad Javed, announced the judgement in two more May 9 arson and siege cases at Kot Lakhpat Jail.
According to details surfaced on Saturday, Dr Yasmin Rashid, Mian Mahmoodur Rasheed, Omar Sarfraz Cheema and Ejaz Chaudhry were among seven convicts awarded 10 years’ imprisonment each. With these rulings, judgements have been announced in seven cases linked to 9 May so far.
ATC judge Arshad Javed also announced judgements in cases related to the burning of vehicles in Gulberg and a container at Kalma Chowk. In the Gulberg vehicle-burning case, guilt having been established, Yasmin Rashid, Umar Sarfraz Cheema and five others received 10 years’ imprisonment each.
The court acquitted 22 accused in the Gulberg vehicle-burning case. In the same case, four accused, including Mian Aslam Iqbal, were declared absconders.
In the Kalma Chowk container-burning case of May 9, 24 accused were awarded 10 years’ imprisonment each. Five accused were acquitted in the Kalma Chowk container-burning case. A total of 33 accused were named in the Gulberg vehicle-burning case. Seven accused were declared absconders in the Kalma Chowk container-burning case.
May 9 case verdict: Yasmin Rashid, Cheema get 10 years; Qureshi cleared
Earlier, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) announced on Friday its verdict in another case linked to the May 9, 2023 unrest, sentencing several senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders to long prison terms while acquitting others, including Shah Mehmood Qureshi.
An ATC in Lahore sentenced Dr Yasmin Rashid, Mian Mahmood-ur-Rashid, Ijaz Chaudhry, and Omar Sarfaraz Cheema to 10 years in prison in an arson and encirclement case related to the May 9 violence.
The verdict was announced by ATC Judge Manzar Ali Gul at a makeshift court set up inside Kot Lakhpat Jail.

Separately, a special court in Adiala Jail on Saturday sentenced Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi to a combined 17-year prison term in the Toshakhana 2 case.
Special Judge Central Shahrukh Arjumand presided over the hearing in Adiala Jail.

Bushra Bibi’s sentence: 10 years under Section 409 and an additional 7 years under Sections 5, 2, and 47.

Imran Khan’s sentence: 10 years under Section 409 and 7 years under Sections 5, 2, and 47.

Fines: Both were ordered to pay Rs16.4 million each.
The total combined prison sentence for both stands at 17 years each.
