The Islamabad High Court (IHC) ordered on Thursday the removal of Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri from office.
According to details, the court held that Justice Tariq Mehmood was not eligible as an advocate at the time of his appointment as a judge and directed that he be de-notified.
The copy of the verdict has been ordered to be sent to the Ministry of Law. During the hearing, the registrar of Karachi University appeared in the Islamabad High Court with the records. The registrar said that Tariq Jahangiri had sat the LLB examination using a forged enrolment number and had cleared the papers during the suspension period.
Moreover, the registrar said that no records are available from the college, adding that the registrar informed the court that Karachi University has cancelled Justice Tariq Jahangiri’s degree. Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri did not appear before the court today.
An appeal has been filed in the Constitutional Court against the two-member bench of the IHC dated December 9 by Justice Tariq Jahangiri. The petition contended that the application filed in the IHC was not maintainable.
