The Punjab cabinet has granted the Crime Control Department (CCD) authority to investigate crimes related to women and children.
According to details surfaced on Thursday, the powers of the CCD have been further enhanced. Approval has been given to establish a Special Sexual Offences Investigation Unit (SSOIU) within the CCD. All officers and resources required for the Investigation Wing will be provided to the CCD.
Across Punjab, 263 units will operate under the CCD, which will also be supplied with more than 5,000 personnel. Previously, the SSOIU operated within the Investigation Wing, conducting inquiries into cases involving children and women in accordance with investigation directives.
