Thieves have stolen 550 kilogrammes of pine nuts worth millions of rupees in Gujranwala, with CCTV footage of the daring daytime theft now surfacing and prompting a police investigation.
According to police, 550kg of pine nuts were stolen from Gujranwala, causing a significant financial loss. Authorities confirmed that the stolen pine nuts were valued at Rs3.85 million, though the victim claims the actual loss is much higher.
The incident took place a few days ago, but details have emerged after CCTV footage became available.
Police say CCTV footage clearly shows three thieves carrying out the theft in broad daylight. In the video, the suspects can be seen taking away six sacks of pine nuts from the premises without resistance.
The footage has been shared with investigators and is being used to identify and trace the suspects.
Police register case, investigation underway
The Gujranwala Model Town Police have registered a case following the complaint. Officials confirmed that an investigation is underway, with efforts focused on identifying the suspects seen in the CCTV footage.
Police sources say raids may be conducted once the suspects are traced.
Dispute over value of stolen pine nuts
While the victim has claimed that the actual value of the stolen pine nuts is Rs3.85 million, the police have recorded the loss as Rs350,000. The discrepancy over the valuation is expected to be reviewed as part of the investigation.
Authorities say further verification will determine the final assessed loss.
