A resolution seeking to reduce the minimum age for obtaining a driving licence in Punjab from 18 years to 16 years has been submitted in the Punjab Assembly.
According to details, the resolution was moved by opposition member of the Punjab Assembly Sheikh Imtiaz Mahmood. The text of the resolution said a rapid increase in the youth population in Pakistan, particularly in Punjab, and argues that lowering the legal driving age to 16 would support youth welfare and their inclusion in the national development process.
The resolution cites international examples, noting that in most provinces of Canada driving is permitted at the age of 16, while in Germany a driving licence is available at the age of 17.
