The Asma Jahangir Group secured eight of the 11 Punjab seats in the Pakistan Bar Council elections, defeating the Hamid Khan Group.
According to the details, candidates of the Hamid Khan Group secured victory on two seats, while the result of one seat remains pending. Salman Akram Raja and Shafqat Chohan of the Hamid Khan Group secured election as members of the Pakistan Bar Council.
From the Asma Jahangir Group, Azam Nazeer Tarar, Ahsan Bhoon, Pir Masood Chishti, Amir Saeed Rawn, Tahir Nasrullah Warraich, and Hafeez ur Rehman Chaudhry secured election as members.
Saqib Akram Gondal and Syed Qalb-e-Hassan also secured election as members of the Pakistan Bar Council. The final notification of results is scheduled for December 22.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended congratulations to the Independent Group on securing a clear majority, and to Ahsan Bhoon and Azam Nazeer Tarar on their election as members of the Pakistan Bar Council.
He expressed the expectation of serious and responsible leadership for the supremacy of the Constitution and the rule of law. He said that Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar remains engaged in addressing the issues of the legal fraternity. He stressed the provision of lawyers’ rights on a priority basis.
