The Muttahida Qaumi Movement–Pakistan (MQM-P) joined the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) in supporting the establishment of new provinces, while the IPP welcomed MQM’s backing and expressed satisfaction.
An IPP spokesperson thanked the MQM-P for supporting the call for new provinces. The spokesperson said the MQM-P’s support for the proposal of IPP President Abdul Aleem Khan reflected a national outlook.
The proposal by the MQM-P for 12 new provinces was termed as evidence of its inclusion in the national mainstream, and other political parties were urged to show openness and lend support on the issue.
The IPP spokesperson maintained that fair distribution of powers, resolution of issues at the local level, and smaller administrative units were an urgent need of the time, and that new provinces offered an effective solution for national welfare and improvement.
He added that the demand for new provinces was not new, that the report of January 28, 2013 required implementation, and that new administrative units in provinces other than Punjab could also promote good governance.
The IPP spokesperson said new provinces could be created in Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa without changing their names.
Meanwhile, the IPP also invited all political parties to engage in mutual consultation and purposeful dialogue on the issue of new provinces.
