US President Donald Trump has said that commercial ships are “starting to move” through the Strait of Hormuz, suggesting a gradual return to normal maritime activity in the strategic waterway.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump claimed that vessels were now “moving, many loaded up with oil,” and traveling through what he described as a “Southern Highway,” which he called “totally safe, secure, and pristine.”
He also indicated that alternative routes remain available for maritime traffic.
The remarks come amid ongoing diplomatic developments between Washington and Tehran over a possible framework agreement aimed at reducing tensions in the region.
JD Vance signals cautious progress
US Vice President JD Vance said discussions with Iran remain delicate, adding that it remains to be seen “where Tehran is willing to compromise.”
He expressed hope that the text of a potential agreement could be released within the week, while stressing that negotiations are still ongoing.
Vance also noted that there are elements within Israel that support the emerging framework, suggesting limited but growing regional engagement with the diplomatic process.
He further stated that Israel would have a role in broader discussions shaping what he described as a “new Middle East,” though no formal details were provided.
