The general elections in Gilgit-Baltistan will be held in 24 constituencies on January 24, next year.
According to details, the GB Election Commission has announced the schedule for the polls. The public notification will be issued on December 15 (Monday). The candidates will be allowed to submit the nomination papers from December 15 to 22. The nomination papers will be scrutinised on December 30.
Moreover, the electoral symbols will be allotted on January 13.
On the other hand, President Asif Ali Zardari has approved the polling day for the general elections in the GB. According to the notification issued by the GB Council in Islamabad, the polling process will be conducted on the fixed date across GB.
The GB electoral watchdog chief, Raja Shahbaz Khan had sent the proposals on November 25 for the approval of the polling day.
Separately, earlier today, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif has vowed to ensure the meritocracy in the party's ticket distribution for the elections in Azad Jammu & Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Addressing the party officials, the three-time prime minister said, “We are looking to distribute the party tickets on merit. Every candidate’s reservation will be addressed. All of the party members will have to work together to ensure the victories of the candidates.”
