A tragic incident occurred in the Issori area of North Waziristan, where an explosion inside a madrasa claimed the lives of two children and left eight others injured.
According to initial reports, the children were playing inside the madrasa when explosive material left behind by militants suddenly detonated, causing the blast. The sound of the explosion created panic throughout the area.
The injured children were shifted to a nearby hospital, while security forces cordoned off the site and launched an investigation.
Sources say local medical facilities have been engaged to treat the injured on an emergency basis. During the war on terror, militants had planted large numbers of landmines across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to spread terror and obstruct security forces. In the past, the hills surrounding Isorai served as hideouts for militants' nefarious activities.
A total of 114 square kilometres in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had been identified as containing landmines and explosive devices.
Due to the Pakistan Army’s professional expertise and tireless efforts, 82 square kilometres have so far been completely cleared. Work on demining the remaining areas is ongoing around the clock. The purpose of the Army’s demining operations is to protect civilians from such tragic accidents.
