The French Development Agency (AFD) has praised Wapda’s efforts to promote affordable and clean energy in Pakistan, while assuring continued financial support for future power projects.
Sources divulged that an AFD delegation met with Wapda Chairman Lieutenant General (Retd) Muhammad Saeed. The delegation was led by AFD Asia director, Cyril Blier. During the meeting, financial matters concerning Wapda’s ongoing hydropower projects were discussed with the assistance of AFD.
The Wapda chairman expressed gratitude to AFD for its support in generating low-cost and environmentally friendly electricity. The AFD Director remarked that Wapda’s role in expanding low-cost, green, and clean energy in Pakistan’s National Grid was commendable. He added that financial support would continue.
AFD is currently providing 351 million euros in loans for five of Wapda's ongoing hydropower projects, including the rehabilitation of Mangla, Warsak, Dargai, and Chitral Hydel Power Stations.
