Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto’s two-day visit to Pakistan was set out in an official communiqué, during which delegation-level talks were held between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the Indonesian president.
According to the communiqué, the meetings reaffirmed the shared resolve to strengthen bilateral cooperation. The President of Indonesia was conferred Pakistan’s highest civil honour, the Nishan-e-Pakistan, by the Head of State. The meetings expressed a commitment to broaden cooperation across all areas of mutual interest. The Indonesian president also met President Asif Ali Zardari and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.
It was agreed to convene a session of the Joint Consultative Committee at the earliest, and to enhance cooperation in agricultural and industrial goods, palm oil, and surgical instruments. Emphasis was also placed on cooperation in the halal food industry and Islamic finance. Agreement was reached to increase defence cooperation and exchanges between military training institutions.
The Indonesian side appreciated the ongoing defence education and training cooperation between the two countries. Agreement was also reached on cooperation in defence industries, together with naval and aviation training. Pakistan acknowledged Indonesia’s efforts to improve its national health sector.
It was also agreed to enhance cooperation in pharmaceuticals, health emergencies, and vaccine preparation for infectious diseases.
