Pakistan has reportedly built the most effective and successful diplomatic relationship with the United States during President Donald Trump’s second term, according to a report by the American journal Foreign Policy.
The report highlights Pakistan’s timely cooperation on key security and economic issues as pivotal in gaining President Trump’s trust.
Foreign Policy notes that President Trump developed a strong personal rapport with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, inviting both leaders to the White House on multiple occasions. This personal chemistry, the report says, helped enhance bilateral ties and paved the way for closer collaboration on strategic and economic matters.
Pakistan’s role in assisting the United States, including helping arrest the mastermind behind the Kabul blast, significantly boosted its standing in Washington. The report credits Islamabad’s prompt and coordinated response as a key factor in fostering trust with the US administration.
Economic gains through critical sectors
The report highlights Pakistan’s strategic investments in sectors such as critical minerals and cryptocurrency, which benefited bilateral relations.
-
In the minerals sector, a landmark $500 million deal was signed between the Frontier Works Organization (FWO) and a US-based company.
-
Crypto cooperation also strengthened, with the Pakistan Crypto Council expanding its partnership with World Liberty Financial, signaling Pakistan’s increasing engagement in emerging sectors.
Foreign Policy observes that President Trump maintained a tough stance on India, citing issues like tariffs, Russian oil, and Indo-Pak tensions. Pakistan, meanwhile, publicly credited Trump for facilitating the May ceasefire, while India reportedly rejected his mediation. These actions contributed to a softer US narrative towards Pakistan, the report notes.
