At the parliamentary front, a major decision has been taken to prevent the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) from engaging in non-political and disruptive tactics.
According to details surfaced on Saturday, if any member makes speeches against the state institutions, surrounds the building, uses abusive language, or brings images of PTI founder Imran Khan into the house, their membership will be suspended.
The acting chairman of the Senate, Syedal Khan, will write to PTI’s parliamentary leader on Monday or Tuesday to ensure compliance with the ruling given in the house. In the letter, Syedal Khan will instruct PTI to follow the directions set out in the parliamentary ruling. PTI will be warned about possible action for undemocratic and unlawful conduct and advised to avoid obstructing proceedings in the house.
In an exclusive interview with Samaa TV, Syedal Khan said PTI’s shameful conduct against institutions is unacceptable. He added that his ruling is not political but a clear requirement of the Constitution and the law. He will formally write to PTI’s parliamentary leader in the light of the ruling, and copies of the letter will also be sent to all parliamentary leaders.
He said that no one will be allowed to attack institutions, create disputes, or spread propaganda. The ruling will be enforced strictly, with no exemptions. Past leniency will end, and future violations will result in suspension of senators.
He said that the repeated violations may lead to long-term suspension of membership.
