Indian fast bowler Harshit Rana has been officially reprimanded by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for a Level 1 Code of Conduct breach during the first ODI against South Africa.
The sanction follows a provocative gesture he made after dismissing Dewald Brevis, an act match officials deemed capable of provoking an aggressive reaction from the batter.
The flashpoint occurred in the 22nd over of South Africa’s innings when Rana dismissed Brevis and immediately pointed toward the visiting team’s dressing room in celebration. The ICC noted that the gesture violated Article 2.5, which prohibits actions or gestures that disparage or could incite aggression from a dismissed batter.

Match referee Richie Richardson of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel issued the charge, which Rana accepted without contest, eliminating the need for a formal hearing.
One demerit point
As part of the penalty, Rana has received one demerit point, his first in the last 24 months. Level 1 offences — the mildest category in the ICC disciplinary system — typically result in an official reprimand, a fine of up to 50% of the match fee, and one to two demerit points.

The penalty does not impact Rana’s availability for upcoming matches.
