Three people, including a former bar president, died in Jhang after unidentified armed men opened fire on a vehicle on Gojra Road on Saturday.
The Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) took notice of the incident and asked the Regional Police Officer for an immediate report.
According to initial information, former bar president Muneer Sadhana left his home when two armed men on a motorcycle intercepted his vehicle and fired repeatedly. Muneer Sadhana and his driver died on the spot.
Two passers-by sustained injuries; one died after arrival at hospital, while the other remains under treatment at the District Headquarters Hospital.
Police said that the incident appeared to stem from an old enmity, although an investigation is under way. District Police Officer Bilal Iftikhar Kayani said the suspects would be arrested soon and brought to justice. The attack caused widespread anger within the legal community.
It is pertinent to note that according to the media reports, FIFA had appointed Muneer Sadhana as acting chairman of the Pakistan Football Federation normalisation committee after Hamza Khan’s exit from the PFF.
