Three Chinese nationals died after an attack on a Chinese company’s camp in Tajikistan.
The incident took place on the night of November 26 in the Khatlon region and the Tajik Embassy in Kuwait confirmed the deaths. The embassy said that militant groups active on Afghan soil carried out the attack. It said that cross-border militant operations from Afghanistan continued, and Tajikistan lodged a strong protest.
According to the embassy, Tajikistan maintained efforts to keep peace along the border with Afghanistan, yet groups based in Afghanistan did not cease their assaults.
The embassy called on the Afghan interim government to take effective and practical measures to secure the border and to halt militant activity.
Meanwhile, Pakistan has expressed deep sorrow and strong condemnation over the killing of Chinese citizens in Tajikistan.
“We are saddened and deeply grieved by the killing of three Chinese workers in a terrorist attack in Tajikistan,” the Foreign Office spokesperson said. Pakistan extends its full solidarity to the governments and people of China and Tajikistan, he added.
Tahir Andrabi said that targeting Chinese citizens is highly regrettable and strongly condemnable. He noted that the use of drones in the incident further highlights the serious threats emanating from Afghanistan.
“Pakistan itself has repeatedly been a victim of terrorism originating from Afghan soil,” the spokesperson said. He stated that the people of Pakistan feel the pain and suffering of their Chinese and Tajik brothers. The presence of terrorists under the watch of the Afghan Taliban government remains a matter of grave concern, he added.
The spokesperson stressed that the only effective way to address this threat is to take decisive action against terrorist groups operating from Afghanistan. Pakistan, he affirmed, will continue its efforts for peace and stability in the region.
