Sri Lankan cricketer Charith Asalanka is expected to be removed as the T20I captain ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026, slated to happen from February.
According to details, the change in leadership may be done due to the Sri Lanka’s recent shortcomings in T20Is. Sri Lankan chief selector Upul Tharanga said: “We will have to consider the best option for the captaincy slot after the ongoing tri-nation series.”
“The decision will be made after the selectors will hold a meeting with the coach in this regard,” Tharanga said.
It has been reported that the selectors wanted to appoint new captain. Subsequently, Dasun Shanka was appointed as the vice-captain.
The Sri Lankan chief selector asserted: “Asalanka had to withdraw the Pakistan tour due to the viral fever and body ache.”
