Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Sahir Shamshad Mirza delivered his farewell address at the Joint Staff Headquarters, highlighting the urgent need for unified strategy and enhanced coordination among Pakistan’s armed forces in the face of fast-evolving global challenges.
In his address, General Mirza said the world today is changing “at an unimaginable pace,” and these rapid shifts are deeply influencing both Pakistan’s internal and external security challenges. He noted that the nature of threats now ranges from hybrid confrontation to full-scale war.
The outgoing CJCSC emphasized that such conditions demand a more coordinated, collaborative, and unified military approach.
Call for coordination, organisational reform
General Mirza stated that coordination, a common strategy, and cooperation between the three services are not merely desirable but “an important necessity". He said these reforms are essential to prepare the armed forces for the future and to deal effectively with emerging threats.
“This is an indispensable organizational reform to face future changes,” he stressed.
Fully empowered, modern armed forces
General Mirza underscored the need for a fully empowered and adequately equipped military structure, calling it a “practical necessity” for the system. He said Pakistan’s forces must be ready for future wars with a unified and coordinated strategic posture.
He added that the military’s evolving organizational structure, however it is established, must fulfill its new responsibilities with honesty and determination.
In concluding his farewell remarks, General Mirza offered his best wishes and prayers for all three services, with special reference to the Joint Staff Headquarters. He reaffirmed confidence in the institution’s ability to meet future challenges with professionalism and resolve.
