President Asif Ali Zardari thanked the Iranian leadership for its expression of solidarity with Pakistan during the recent floods.
According to details surfaced on Tuesday, he conveyed his gratitude in a meeting with Ali Larijani, the secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, at the President House.
The president welcomed Larijani and congratulated him on assuming charge of the Supreme National Security Council. He said that the exchange of delegations between Islamabad and Tehran reflected a positive aspect of bilateral relations.
President Zardari said cooperation between neighbouring states served the shared interests of their peoples, adding that Pakistan and Iran enjoyed longstanding ties rooted in history, belief and culture.
The president also expressed appreciation for Iran’s support to Pakistan during its conflict with India. He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to closer cooperation with Iran in areas of mutual benefit.
