Pakistan Telecommunication Authority’s Director-General (Wireless — Licensing) Amer Shahzad has said that the PTA favour a cut in tax on mobile phones imported from abroad.
Addressing an AI conference, he said: "The PTA holds no authority to collect tax on mobile phones; the Federal Board of Revenue collect this tax."
He said that the PTA face the same effect of mobile phone tax as ordinary users and that the Authority issue repeated clarifications on the matter.
Shahzad added that, just as there are no free units, no free phone reaches officials. He said that the PTA pay tax as any other citizen.
