The Chinese Gezhouba Group has been invited to invest in Pakistan’s strategic highway and motorway projects during a high-level meeting in Islamabad.
The offer aims to enhance trade, tourism, and regional connectivity while deepening Pak-China economic cooperation.
Chairman Liu Hualiang of the Chinese Gezhouba Group, along with a delegation, met Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan to review investment opportunities in Pakistan’s expanding infrastructure sector.
During the meeting, Abdul Aleem Khan invited the Chinese firm to invest in the Mansehra–Naran–Kaghan–Babusar highway, which extends toward the Chinese border. He emphasized that this route serves as a vital alternative to the Karakoram Highway and holds major importance for both trade and tourism.
China shows interest in M6, M9, other key projects
The Chinese business group expressed interest in participating in the construction of M6 and M9, praising their strategic relevance. Abdul Aleem Khan also encouraged China to take part in completing the remaining sections of M6 and M10, noting that the Karachi–Sukkur Motorway will eventually link directly to the port -- making it one of the most critical infrastructure corridors in the region.
The minister highlighted Pakistan’s growing infrastructure needs driven by its rising population. He pointed out that the National Highway Authority’s revenue has increased significantly -- from Rs66 billion to Rs109 billion in just one year -- reflecting improved performance and investment potential.
Call to expand Pak-China cooperation
Abdul Aleem Khan described the move as an important step to strengthen Pak-China cooperation, reaffirming that China remains “the closest and dearest among Pakistan's friendly countries.” He stressed that promoting business ties between the two nations reinforces their longstanding relationship.
He noted that he visited China four times in the past year, underscoring how both countries are “coming closer.” The minister added that the lesson of Pak-China friendship is being taught in Pakistan’s educational institutions, reflecting the depth of bilateral ties.
“China should not consider Pakistan as a separate country but as its part. Both China and Pakistan are of great importance in the region,” he remarked.
China reiterates commitment to Pak development
Chairman Liu Hualiang reaffirmed China’s “clear commitment” to Pakistan’s economic progress. He said the Gezhouba Group is ready to enhance cooperation in communications, infrastructure, and other developmental sectors.
According to him, investment in Pakistan’s motorways would prove profitable for China while simultaneously supporting Pakistan’s long-term growth under its expanding infrastructure vision.
