A fault in Cloudflare’s system caused the websites of major Pakistani institutions to go offline on Tuesday, affecting access to services across the financial sector.
Websites of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), the SECP, the NCCPL and the CDC remained unavailable as the disruption continued. Activity at the Pakistan Stock Exchange also slowed, and NDM trades faced delays as a result of the outage.
Several Pakistani institutions rely on the US-based company Cloudflare for website operation and cyber security.
Former P@SHA chairman Zohaib Ahmed said Pakistan should establish its own Cloudflare-type system. He said that Pakistani IT professionals possess the necessary capability and that a local alternative could be developed if the Government of Pakistan provides support.
