The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has clarified reports regarding former Test cricketer Wahab Riaz’s appointment as a consultant for the national women’s team.
A PCB spokesperson said Wahab Riaz is currently engaged with the board as a consultant and works across several departments. No additional responsibilities have been given to him with the Pakistan women’s cricket team at this stage, the spokesperson added.
The clarification came after earlier reports suggested the 40-year-old former pacer had been appointed as a consultant for the women’s side.
Sources said Riaz has collaborated with the Director of Women’s Cricket over recent weeks to develop plans and long-term strategies for the team.
Wahab Riaz likely to become women’s team head coach
It is pertinent to note that the position became vacant following the end of Mohammad Wasim’s tenure, prompting the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to evaluate new candidates for the role.
Wahab Riaz, a veteran of Pakistan’s national team, has previously served as senior manager of the men’s cricket team and was also a member of the national selection committee.
