US President Donald Trump has unveiled the newly renovated Lincoln Bathroom, describing its “highly polished, statuary marble” design as part of his latest White House makeover.
The reveal comes amid growing outrage over his decision to demolish the East Wing and revamp other historic areas of the presidential residence.
Trump showcased the Lincoln Bathroom’s new look in photos posted on Truth Social on Friday, highlighting its white-and-black marble finish and gold accents — design elements reminiscent of his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.
“The bathroom looks absolutely beautiful,” Trump said, boasting of the “statuary marble” and “mirror-polished finish” that now adorn the space.
The Lincoln Bathroom, connected to the Lincoln Bedroom, has historically been preserved in its classic style — untouched even during major renovations under past presidents.
Preservationists criticise ‘Mar-a-Lago Makeover’
The new design has already sparked backlash from historians and preservationists, who argue that Trump’s renovations have eroded the historic integrity of the White House.
Critics have pointed to a pattern of extravagant remodeling — including the demolition of the East Wing, the paving of the Rose Garden, and the gold-themed redesign of the Oval Office — as part of what one historian called “the commercialization of presidential heritage.”
Democrats have also accused Trump of using taxpayer money to personalize the nation’s most symbolic residence for political optics.
The Lincoln Bedroom and its adjoining bathroom are among the White House’s most iconic rooms, known for their Civil War–era furniture and historical memorabilia. Former presidents, including George W. Bush and Barack Obama, reportedly left the space untouched during their terms.
Trump’s decision to remodel the bathroom — and publicize it on social media — marks a sharp departure from that tradition.
Ongoing furor over East Wing demolition
The unveiling comes just weeks after Trump ordered the demolition of the East Wing, citing “structural upgrades.” The move has triggered bipartisan concern, with preservation groups demanding transparency over the project’s purpose and funding.
A senior White House official said the Lincoln Bathroom renovation was “self-funded” by the president, though no official documentation has been released.
