The Punjab government has announced a public holiday for all subordinate courts across the province on Friday, November 1, in view of the Punjab Bar Council elections.
According to official sources, the decision was taken to facilitate the smooth conduct of the elections and to ensure maximum participation from the legal community. As a result, all subordinate courts in Punjab will remain closed for the day.
It should be noted that due to the elections of the Punjab Bar Council to be held on November 1, campaigning and political activities among lawyers have gained momentum. A tough competition is expected between candidates.
Polling stations will be set up in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Multan, Gujranwala, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Sargodha and Sahiwal divisions, while 341 candidates are participating in the elections from across the province. A close contest is expected between 93 candidates from Lahore division.
Local holiday in Narowal
Separately, the deputy commissioner of Narowal, Syed Hassan Raza, has declared a local public holiday in the Narowal district on Saturday, November 1, to mark the annual Urs of Hazrat Pir Syed Jamaat Ali Shah Lasani at Alipur Syedan Sharif.
An official notification issued by the Deputy Commissioner’s Office confirmed the closure of public and private offices in the district for the day.
Two consecutive holidays
With Sunday following immediately after the declared holiday, residents of Narowal will enjoy two consecutive days off. The annual Urs of Hazrat Pir Syed Jamaat Ali Shah Lasani is a major spiritual event in the region, attracting devotees from across Punjab and beyond.
Local authorities have made security and traffic arrangements to ensure the smooth flow of visitors during the Urs celebrations.
