Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer has undergone surgery in Sydney following an injury sustained during the third One-Day International against Australia, Indian media reported.
His condition is said to be stable, and doctors have advised a week’s rest. Iyer was injured while attempting to take a catch during the match against Australia.
He suffered a rib injury that led to internal bleeding, after which he was moved to the intensive care unit for treatment.
According to reports, Iyer’s condition has now improved, though he remains under medical observation.
Separately, Indian T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav said that Iyer was recovering well and would remain under supervision for the next few days.
“It is unfortunate what happened, but the doctors are taking good care of him,” Suryakumar said during a press conference ahead of the T20I series against Australia. “There is no cause for concern.”
