The Multan Sultans franchise has written to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), presenting a set of proposals aimed at strengthening and enhancing transparency in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
In the letter addressed to the PCB Chairman Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi, Ali Khan Tareen called for reforms to ensure improved governance and a more robust league structure. The proposals focus on creating a transparent framework and establishing a system based on merit and professionalism.
Tareen reaffirmed the franchise’s long-standing commitment to the league and raised concerns over ad hoc decision-making and limited administrative experience in certain areas.
He emphasised that franchises should have representation in the PSL committees and working groups. The letter suggested that the key PSL roles should be filled through a structured process. Each position should have a clearly defined description, with franchise participation in providing input before candidate assessment and selection to ensure merit-based recruitment and professional standards.
The letter highlighted that the PSL has the potential to attract top regional talent and should not rely solely on current or former PCB employees. It proposed that a qualified executive team should lead operations, marketing, fan engagement, player affairs and financial management.
It also recommended that monthly meetings be held on scheduled dates with prior circulation of agendas, while minutes should be properly recorded and shared among stakeholders.
The proposal underscored the need for an organised partnership between the PCB and franchises, aligning all stakeholders with the shared goal of building the league to global standards.
After a successful decade, Tareen said it is time to take the PSL to the next level.
