The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Islamabad on Thursday issued non-bailable arrest warrants for senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders Omar Ayub, Zartaj Gul, and Zain Qureshi in connection with a protest and vandalism case filed at the Sangjani Police Station.
The court directed the police to arrest the accused and produce them before the court at the next hearing, warning that failure to comply would invite strict legal consequences.
Court orders SP-rank officer to oversee arrests
In its written order, the court instructed that an SP-rank officer be specifically appointed to carry out the arrests of the PTI leaders and ensure their presentation before the court.
The court observed that arrest warrants for the same accused had been issued previously, but the directives were not executed. It expressed dissatisfaction over the lack of compliance and reiterated the order to enforce the warrants immediately.
Background of case
The case stems from a protest and vandalism incident allegedly involving PTI members and supporters. The first information report (FIR) was registered at Sangjani Police Station under anti-terrorism provisions after public and private property was reportedly damaged during the demonstration.
The ATC has now directed the police to ensure swift and transparent execution of the arrest warrants, emphasizing the need for law enforcement accountability.
