Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended warm greetings to Pakistan’s minority communities during a Diwali ceremony at the Prime Minister House, reaffirming the government’s commitment to equality, inclusion, and interfaith harmony.
He highlighted measures ensuring minority participation in public institutions, youth programs, and national development.
Nation stands united against hatred and terrorism
In his address, the prime minister said the nation stands shoulder to shoulder with the armed forces and reiterated that there is no room for hatred, discrimination, or terrorism in Pakistan.
Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that unity and mutual respect among all religious and ethnic communities are essential for national progress. “Pakistan’s strength lies in its diversity, and every citizen — regardless of faith — contributes to the nation’s success,” he said.
Govt expands opportunities and protections for minorities
The PM announced that a 5% quota has been reserved for minorities in government jobs, ensuring fair representation in public institutions.
He added that a special budget allocation has been made for the celebration of religious festivals such as Diwali, Christmas, and Easter, so that minority communities can celebrate with dignity and joy.
Shehbaz Sharif highlighted that minorities are being actively included in the Prime Minister Youth Program, which aims to empower young citizens through training, business loans, and education initiatives. He said that special scholarships for youth from minority communities have been prioritized to provide equal opportunities in education and professional development.
Strengthening National Minorities Commission
The premier announced that the government has approved measures to further activate the National Minorities Commission, strengthening its role in safeguarding the rights and welfare of minority communities.
He noted that minorities are represented in the National Assembly and Senate, as well as in various political parties, reflecting Pakistan’s democratic inclusivity.
Acknowledging minorities’ role in nation building
Shehbaz paid tribute to the valuable contributions of minorities in sectors such as education, healthcare, reconstruction, and defense. He said, “From the creation of Pakistan to its reconstruction and defense, the minority community has played a proud and historic role.”
The premier expressed regret that majority communities have sometimes failed to fully appreciate minority events, but assured that under his leadership, the government would continue to promote interfaith harmony and respect.
“We are proud of our minority brothers and sisters,” Shehbaz Sharif said, adding that their loyalty and service are integral to Pakistan’s identity.
