Preparations for a two-day Basant festival have commenced in the Walled City, with the Deputy Commissioner Lahore presenting a "Safe Basant Plan" during a high-level meeting.
The meeting, chaired by Punjab Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, included recommendations from the deputy commissioner regarding the scope and safety measures of the event. As per the proposals, the Basant festival will take place over two days—Saturday and Sunday—and will be permitted only on a limited scale in designated areas of inner Lahore.
Specific zones identified for the celebrations include Shahi Qila, Mochi Gate, Bhati Gate and Rang Mahal. The plan outlines several restrictions to ensure public safety. A complete ban on the use of sharp metal, nylon and chemical strings has been proposed, while only strings made from cotton or starch will be allowed.
The proposals also include mandatory barcodes on both kites and strings, with strict action to be taken against unregistered kite sellers.
