Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has urged United States President Donald Trump to end the Ukraine war as in the Middle East.
His remarks came during a telephone conversation with US President Trump. The Ukrainian president congratulated Trump on the ceasefire in Gaza.
President Zelensky said that he had discussed the strengthening of Ukraine’s air defence with Trump. He added that long-range missile systems were also among the topics covered in the call.
Zelensky informed his American counterpart of Russian strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. He expressed thanks for the United States’ continued support.
He said the two leaders had reached specific agreements aimed at improving Ukraine’s defence capabilities.
Referring to Trump’s previous diplomatic efforts in the Middle East, Zelensky encouraged him to use the same experience to help bring about peace in Ukraine.
He said Russia must be prepared for diplomacy, and that this would only be possible through strength.
Relations between the two men have improved since February, when they clashed during a televised meeting at the White House. They had also met in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in September.
