The Orange Line train and Metro Bus services in Lahore have been suspended, causing widespread inconvenience to commuters across the city. The suspension has left thousands of citizens stranded as major routes remain blocked due to the prevailing law and order situation.
According to officials, the City Terminal, Rahbar Terminal, and several other bus stations have also been closed, effectively bringing the city’s public transport system to a standstill.
In Islamabad, the Metro Bus and CDA-operated bus services have also been suspended, the district administration confirmed. The closures have disrupted routine commutes for office workers, students, and travelers.
Early holidays announced for schools, universities
In addition to the transport shutdown, all schools and universities in Lahore have been given early holidays, according to the CEO Education Lahore.
“Children have been given holidays due to the closure of routes,” the education official confirmed, adding that institutions across the city were informed earlier in the day to ensure student safety.
The decision aims to minimize inconvenience for parents and students amid traffic restrictions and ongoing road closures.
Separately, the Higher Education Department has also ordered the closure of all colleges and universities in Lahore. The Punjab University has issued a notification announcing the closure of the university.

According to the Education Minister’s spokesperson, the university has been evacuated and all classes have been suspended. The spokesperson added that students are being evacuated from the campus as a precautionary measure.
In Lahore, the LLB examinations scheduled for today at Punjab University have been postponed. The new date for the postponed exams will be announced later. However, the examinations scheduled for October 13 will be held as per the original schedule, the spokesperson confirmed.
The Punjab government has imposed Section 144 across the province for 10 days, banning the gathering of four or more people in public places, streets, neighbourhoods, and open fields.

According to a notification issued by the Punjab Home Department, the restrictions are aimed at preventing potential unrest and maintaining public safety. The order took immediate effect upon issuance.
However, the government clarified that the ban will not apply to prayers, weddings, funerals, offices, or courts. The notification also announced a complete ban on the display of weapons, public gatherings, and the use of loudspeakers throughout Punjab during this period.
