Former Senator Mushtaq Ahmed returns to Pakistan after release from Israeli custody
According to details surfaced on Thursday, Senator Mushtaq has arrived in Islamabad from Amman on a private airline flight. He received a warm welcome at Islamabad airport.
It is pertinent to note that Senator Mushtaq was a member of the Global Sumud Flotilla supporting Palestinians.
Separately, few days back, the activists deported from Israel after joining an intercepted aid flotilla to Gaza have alleged severe mistreatment by Israeli forces, saying they were harassed, deprived of food, and subjected to humiliation during detention.
The Global Sumud Flotilla, which sought to break the naval blockade of Gaza and deliver symbolic aid, was intercepted between Wednesday and Friday. About 450 participants were arrested during the Israeli operation, sparking widespread criticism and global protests.
Italian activist Cesare Tofani, speaking at Rome’s Fiumicino Airport on Sunday, said, “We were treated terribly … from the army to the police, there was harassment,” according to Italy’s ANSA news agency.
Addressing the public at the airport, Mushtaq Ahmed said he had “left after writing a will” and was uncertain how he had returned. His remarks reflected deep emotion and determination as he vowed to take account of the blood of Palestinians.
He categorically rejected the two-state solution and the Abraham Accords, calling Palestine “the land of Palestinians whose capital will be Jerusalem.”
Nationwide movement for Gaza announced
The former senator announced plans to mobilize Pakistanis in support of Palestine, stating that 100,000 Palestinian committees will be formed across the country.
“I will go to every village, city, and press club for the Palestinians,” he said, adding that a convoy of thousands of Pakistanis will travel from Karachi to Gaza to show solidarity.
He also revealed plans to organize a peaceful sit-in in front of the U.S. Embassy, urging all political parties in Pakistan to unite for Gaza’s cause.
Mushtaq Ahmed appealed to leaders and citizens alike to set aside differences and stand collectively for Palestine. He emphasized that the struggle for Gaza is not just political but humanitarian, urging every Pakistani to play their part.
