Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) chief Fazlur Rehman held a telephonic conversation, during which they discussed the Pak-Saudi defence agreement and the situation in the Middle East, including Gaza.
Rehman termed the defence agreement between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia as "historic", and said that it was a matter of joy for Pakistan to have the honour of protecting the Two Holy Mosques.
PM Shehbaz said during the conversation that Pakistan has always stood by the Palestinian people and will continue to raise its voice for their rights. He said Hamas’ statement on a ceasefire in Gaza presented a rare opportunity to restore peace in the region and to stop the genocide of Palestinians.
He said the ceasefire in Gaza would bring an end to the killing of innocent Palestinians, and that the long-standing dream of establishing a Palestinian state could be realised through the ceasefire.
The prime minister emphasised that peace in the Middle East was essential for the development and prosperity of the region’s people.
