Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Friday the government’s top priority is to place the national economy on strong foundations.
He chaired a meeting on the economy and foreign investment, attended by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Gen Syed Asim Munir, Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan and other relevant officials.
The meeting reviewed the economic situation, foreign investment prospects and both ongoing and proposed development projects. The prime minister has directed that private sector participation must be ensured in economic planning. He called on ministries and relevant institutions to provide support and facilitation to international investors.
He said the recent upward trend in the economy reflects growing confidence of foreign investors in Pakistan. He added that Pakistan would become a key regional centre for investment.
Meanwhile, those present also included Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, and Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, along with other ministers and officials.
