The Ministry of Industries and Production has completed the first phase of the lottery for the e-bikes scheme.
A total of more than 269,000 applications for e-bike rickshaws were received nationwide, of which 41,000 applicants were successful in the lottery.
Officials predict that by 2030, 30 per cent of new vehicles sold in Pakistan will be electric. Direct subsidies are provided to low-income citizens for electric vehicles. On motorcycles, buyers must secure loans of Rs50,000 from banks and pay Rs80,000 themselves, while subsidies for rickshaws will range between Rs200,000 and Rs400,000.
The ministry confirmed that the first phase of e-balloting was carried out through a transparent and secure digital system. The government plans to allocate a subsidy of Rs9 billion for e-bikes by June.
