A powerful suicide attack targeted the Frontier Corps (FC) headquarters on Hali Road in Quetta on Tuesday, leaving at least 10 people dead and over 20 others injured, according to provincial authorities.
Security forces confirmed that six terrorists, including a suicide bomber, were killed in the retaliatory action.
The assault was carried out using a white Suzuki van, which exploded outside the FC headquarters in the Model Town area. The terrorists, disguised in FC uniforms, attempted to storm the compound after the blast. However, security forces took immediate action, killing five attackers on the spot.
Heavy gunfire followed the explosion, spreading panic in the area. Witnesses reported windows shattering and vehicles, including motorcycles and rickshaws, badly damaged. Footage from the scene showed thick smoke clouds rising high into the sky.
Casualties and emergency response
Provincial Health Minister Bakht Muhammad Kakar confirmed that 10 bodies were brought to the Civil Hospital and Trauma Center, while more than 30 injured people were shifted for treatment. The condition of at least five victims remains critical.
Hospital authorities declared an emergency and called in additional staff. Rescue teams swiftly transported the wounded to medical facilities as police and security forces cordoned off the area. Bomb disposal units were also deployed to examine the explosives used in the attack.
Security forces’ response
Security sources confirmed that all six attackers, including the suicide bomber, were neutralized. Two FC personnel were martyred in the exchange of fire. Officials said the quick response prevented an even larger tragedy.
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi praised the courage of the soldiers, stating:
“The brave sons of FC foiled the nefarious plot by bringing six terrorists, including a suicide bomber, to a tragic end. I pay tribute to their professionalism and bravery.”
