Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif welcomed the establishment of Mashreq Digital Bank as the country’s second digital bank, highlighting its potential to support economic growth through digitalisation and technology.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony in Islamabad, the Prime Minister described the initiative as a milestone in the complete digital transformation of Pakistan’s economy. He emphasised that digitalisation is essential for promoting cashless business practices and improving transparency by reducing human intervention in financial processes.
He also recognised the UAE’s consistent interest in the economic and social progress of Pakistan. According to the Prime Minister, the bank’s establishment is expected to significantly enhance public service delivery within the financial sector.
Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb also addressed the ceremony. He said the government is working towards economic stability and that remittances remain Pakistan’s economic backbone.
He added that international rating agencies have acknowledged improvements in Pakistan’s economic performance. The Minister noted that the government is implementing administrative reforms and pursuing measures across the energy sector, banking system and state-owned enterprises.
