Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Tuesday ordered an immediate assessment of the damage caused by floods and directed deputy commissioners to carry out surveys in the affected areas.
According to details, CM Maryam Nawaz directed that mosquito and germicidal sprays be conducted at all flood relief camps and tent settlements. She also instructed them to ensure the provision of clean drinking water at flood relief camps.
The chief minister instructed the Additional Chief Secretary (South) to make proper arrangements for flood victims in southern Punjab and asked for a detailed report on rescue and relief efforts.
She emphasised that families, especially women and children, staying at relief camps should receive shoes, clothing and other essential items. She remarked that people had left their homes in difficult circumstances and must not be abandoned. There is a risk of disease once the water recedes, and preparations must be made in advance to address this challenge.
The chief minister ordered an increase in the number of mobile clinics and field hospitals in the flood-affected areas and stressed the need to ensure access to remote regions.
She directed the formation of mobile teams comprising gynaecologists, gastroenterologists and skin specialists for visits to the flood-affected areas. She also announced a special allowance for doctors, paramedical staff and other personnel performing duties in these areas.
CM Maryam instructed the authorities to provide tents and space for flood victims according to their needs and convenience. A decision was made to utilise the services of agriculture interns to assist farmers in flood-affected regions.
