Strong earthquake tremors shook parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday, sending waves of panic among residents. The quake, measuring 5.4 in magnitude, was felt across Swat, Malakand, Dir, Mohmand, and even reached Islamabad and Peshawar.
Tremors felt across northern Pakistan
According to the National Seismological Centre, the earthquake struck at a depth of 22 kilometers, with its epicenter in southeastern Afghanistan. Tremors were felt in Swat, Malakand, Landikotal, Mohmand, Lower Dir, and Upper Dir, Jamrud, while shocks were also reported in Islamabad, Peshawar, Mansehra, and Abbottabad.
Residents rushed out of homes and buildings in fear as aftershocks were reported in several areas. No immediate reports of casualties or damage have been received so far.
A day earlier also, at midnight, strong tremors were felt in several cities across Pakistan. In the wee hours of Monday, strong tremors were experienced in Islamabad and surrounding areas of Punjab, including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Mandi Bahauddin, Sarai Alamgir and Sargodha.

According to the seismic monitoring centre, the earthquake measured 6.0 in magnitude with its epicentre being the Hindu Kush mountain range on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
Shocks were also felt in Daska, Chakwal, Choa Saidan Shah, Kallar Syedan, Safdarabad, Kallar Kahar, Gujrat, Kharian, Gujar Khan, Phalia, Khanqah Dogran and nearby towns also reported feeling the quake. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, tremors were recorded in Charsadda, Swat, Dir, Buner and Kohat.
The earthquake was also felt in Mardan, Mansehra, Battagram, Torghar and other areas. Shocks reached Nowshera, Khyber, Landi Kotal, North Waziristan, Miranshah and Hangu. In Mirpur and surrounding parts of Azad Kashmir, tremors were also experienced.
Across Gilgit-Baltistan, including Ghizer, the earthquake was felt.
