Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has suspended its political activities for one week in solidarity with flood-affected communities. PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar, speaking to SAMAA’s special correspondent in Islamabad, said Punjab is facing a difficult situation and everyone should step forward to help.
Meanwhile, 19 members of the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) have submitted their resignations from National Assembly standing committees to the Speaker’s Office. Those who resigned include Barrister Gohar, Aamir Dogar, Waqas Akram and Sher Afzal Marwat.
PTI Chief Whip Aamir Dogar said a large number of PTI lawmakers have already submitted resignations from committees, and the process is continuing.
Barrister Gohar stated that PTI made repeated efforts to remain part of the system and engage in dialogue, but nothing materialized. “Now, no negotiations are taking place,” he added.
The Speaker’s Office has confirmed receiving the resignations, while SIC members said more resignations will be submitted by September 1.
