Nineteen members of the National Assembly (MNAs) belonging to the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) have submitted their resignations from various standing committees to the Speaker’s Office, marking another significant political move by the PTI-backed lawmakers.
Speaker’s Office confirms resignations
According to officials, the Speaker’s Office has confirmed receiving the resignations. The remaining SIC members are also expected to follow suit by September 1, signaling a collective withdrawal from parliamentary committees.

Gohar: 'We tried hard to stay in system'
Speaking to the media after stepping down from four committees, Barrister Gohar said the PTI and its allied SIC members had made every effort to remain part of the parliamentary system.

He added that when PTI had a mandate of 180 seats, only 91 members were allowed in the Assembly. “Our voice is being suppressed, no relief is given, and we are not being heard. How long could we remain in such a system? That is why we decided to resign from all committees.”

The first resignation came from Faisal Amin Gandapur, followed by a wave of others.
Committees vacated by PTI lawmakers
Barrister Gohar confirmed he resigned from four key bodies: the Information Technology Committee, Law and Justice Committee, Human Rights Committee, and the Business Advisory Committee. Other lawmakers have similarly vacated important committee roles, leaving gaps in parliamentary oversight.
