The district administration on Wednesday announced a holiday for all private and government schools in Pasrur after intermittent rains and overflowing drains submerged large parts of the city and nearby villages.
According to officials, continuous rainfall caused breaches in drainage dykes and safety barriers, resulting in water entering more than a hundred villages.
Thousands of acres of paddy and fodder crops were reported to be under water, while the main city roads and railway track were also submerged, disrupting traffic movement in the area.
Authorities said the closure of schools was a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students, as several routes leading to educational institutions had become impassable.
