The Pakistan cricket team is expected to undergo major leadership changes in both the ODI and Test formats, with consultations already underway at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore, according to sources.
Sources said Salman Ali Agha has emerged as the frontrunner for Pakistan’s ODI captaincy, a role currently held by wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan.
The development reportedly came after an internal discussion between the selection committee, the High Performance Center director, and Salman Agha before the team’s departure to Dubai.

The committee is said to be considering Salman as a long-term option, given his steady performances and adaptability in the middle order.
Saud Shakeel in line for test captaincy
In the red-ball format, Saud Shakeel is expected to replace Shan Masood as Test captain, insiders told media. If confirmed, this would mark a significant shift in Pakistan’s leadership approach, as the board looks to groom younger players for long-term responsibility.
Saud, who has impressed selectors with his consistency, could also see his central contract upgraded to Category B once given the captaincy.
An important meeting was held at the NCA earlier this week to review the team’s leadership future. The discussions centered on the need for stability in captaincy roles across formats, especially ahead of the upcoming tours.
Sources suggest the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is weighing multiple options, but Salman Agha and Saud Shakeel are the most likely candidates for formal announcement.
